For electronica fans who don’t like jazz, and jazz fans who can’t stand electronica, The Cinematic Orchestra offers a reconciliation.
Its mastermind is Jason Swinscoe. His love of both genres inspired him to try a new approach to fusing the two – which up until that time consisted of looping and sampling. Instead, he played a series of samples to a handpicked gathering of jazz musicians to riff around, recorded the resulting jams and then had those shaped and stretched beyond recognition with digital production techniques.
